University of South Australia Branch

Welcome to the University of South Australia Branch of the NTEU, located on Peel st in the city between the City East and City West Campuses.

The NTEU's main aims are to represent, protect and assist members in industrial matters at a National, State and institutional level.

The University of South Australia Branch has representatives at each campus and on several University committees. Most importantly, the NTEU is the  foremost staff representative in Enterprise Bargaining negotiations.

The University of South Australia NTEU Office provides members with easy access to industrial expertise from the Branch Office Staff who, because they work exclusively with and for University staff, intimately understand local issues and conditions of employment.

Our Universities Matter Campaign

Our Universities Matter Campaign

NTEU campaign for a better higher education system

NTEU will campaign during 2008 to reinvigorate Australia’s universities under the banner of Our Universities Matter – Investing in People and Society. The campaign’s aims include:

All 39 Australian public universities will negotiate new Collective Agreements during 2008–09, which will set salary levels and employment conditions for staff for the next three years.

The campaign will link our Collective Bargaining directly with the broader public discussions about the higher education sector’s future.

For more information on the campaign go to  http://www.nteu.org.au/campaigns/ouruniversitiesmatter

HOW YOU CAN BE INVOLVED

  • Sign the petition. Go to the website and sign the national petition which calls on the Federal Government to improve university funding; improve access to universities; and legislate to protect academic freedom and institutional autonomy.
  • Bookmark the website. Save the campaign website in your favourites and refer back to it on a regular basis to stay up to date with campaign events.
  • Distribute material. Download material from the website or contact the Branch and we can arrange for you to receive material that can be distributed amongst your colleagues.
  • Sign the statement on intellectual freedom and institutional autonomy. If you are a senior academic or general staff member go to the website and sign the statement.

BE ACTIVE. TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Enterprise Bargaining

Enterprise Bargaining

Our ability to secure just and fair EB outcomes depends on the willingness of the membership to make their voices heard, not only by those on the other side of the table, but within the Union itself. The Bargaining Teams, Branch Officers and Committee need to know what members think is important: the members will set and revise the agenda.

Keep checking this website for the latest updates on your EB negotiations with UniSA.

HEWRR

HEWRR's Information

The latest data on student enrolments and university entry marks may be the first sign that the Howard Government’s reform agenda for higher education, including the deregulation of HECS fees, is finally starting to have a real impact on student’s decisions about whether to study at university or not.

How To Join

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Fees are set as a percentage of salary; that means you pay in proportion to your ability to contribute.  The fee for each member, excluding casuals, is divided between the Branch, Division, and National levels of the Union.

At the University of SA Branch the fee is 1% of salary. For instance, if you are on a salary of $35,000 per annum, then your union membership fee will be approximately $6.70 per week. Union fees are tax deductible.

CASUAL FEES
Annual earnings              6th month fee         Annual fee
$10,000 and under          $27.50                   $55.00
$10,001 - $20,000          $38.50                   $77,00
Over $20,000                 $55.00                   $110.00

HOW TO PAY
The easiest way to pay your union dues is by direct debit from a nominated bank account, or by credit card or direct invoice. These methods are preferred to payroll deductions, as the University has advised of its decision to charge a fee for payroll deductions, and they give the university less control and member information. However, at this stage you may still choose to pay by payroll deduction if you wish.

Membership forms can be downloaded from this site. Fill out the form and return it to the Branch.
