Media Release: NTEU Members Angry at Murdoch University Management Over Attempt To Stop Industrial Action
MEDIA RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION - November 24, 2009
Fresh from defeating Murdoch University Management in the industrial court (Fair Work Australia on Friday 20th November), Murdoch University NTEU members met today and unanimously resolved to continue concerted industrial action. The action continues to include bans on the recording and transmission of student results on the current end of year exams and assessments (while providing for relevant student exemptions).
NTEU members have strengthened their resolve they will continue to take industrial action to support their bargaining team while University Management wont bargain productively said NTEU Acting Branch President Dr Marian Kemp today.
Grahame McCulloch, NTEU National General Secretary, who addressed the packed meeting of NTEU members, said that the temperature of members anger has only increased as a result of Murdoch University Managements attempts to stop their industrial action the bans on students results will be followed by more action until we get them to come to the bargaining table with reasonable proposals.
The meeting also resolved to call on the Vice Chancellor, Professor John Yovich, to direct his bargaining team to achieve satisfactory collective workplace agreements by the end of this year.
Murdoch University members are the angriest I have seen them in my 17 years in the leadership of the NTEU their resolve is unshakable said Mr McCulloch.
The unanimous resolutions of the NTEU members today to continue their campaign for fair salaries and working conditions continues to be supported by the Murdoch Guild of Students.
