Public Holiday Entitlements

As we head into a long weekend, it is important all members are reminded of their public holiday entitlements. In accordance with The University of Melbourne Collective Agreement 2010, A staff member (other than a casual) is entitled to the following university holidays without loss of pay.

  • New Years Day
  • Australia Day
  • Good Friday
  • Easter Monday
  • Easter Tuesday
  • ANZAC Day
  • Queens Birthday
  • Christmas Day
  • Boxing Day
  • The days between Boxing Day and New Years Day
  • Any such other days as the Vice-Chancellor shall declare.

If New Years Day and Australia Day fall on a weekend, the following Monday shall be observed as the holiday. When Christmas Day and Boxing Day fall on a weekend, the 27th of December shall be observed as the Christmas Day holiday and the 28th of December shall be observed as the Boxing Day Holiday.

Remember, by agreement you can substitute a cultural or religious day that is significant to you for one of these university holidays.

If a professional staff member is required to work on any of these university holidays, they will be entitled to payment of double time for the hours worked on this day. Time of in lieu may be granted by mutual agreement between the staff member and the university.
