A message to management at the University of New England
Professional, academic and ELC staff at the University of New England have put together a terrific video, calling on the management at UNE to engage with its staff on issues affecting the campus, such as a lack of transparency in decision processes and selection panels, a dire loss of collegiality borne out of poor business decisions (like the current trimesterisation model) and the lack of consultation with staff on matters that affect them.
These issues can be alleviated, allowing for a far better workplace for all staff. It just requires leadership with that vision.

'Dumb Cuts' presentations at UNE
Next week Tuesday May 14 from 12:30 until 1:30 pm in E07 Education RM133, as part of a nationwide protest there will be 2 insightful critiques on the topic of the recent announcement by the Federal Government on funding cuts to the higher education sector.

English language teachers and academic members of the NTEU taking part in industrial action on 1 May should be congratulated on their solidarity and their determination to send the clearest of signals to an out-of-touch UNE management.

1. Why is the strike taking place?
The UNE NTEU website has a list of reasons why we are taking strike action, which can be found at the link.
2. When is the strike?
Wednesday, May 1 2013 starting at 7:30am. Please contact the branch (x3175) to receive any resources you may like to place in your work area in the leadup to the strike. If you are interested in a more hands on role during the picket (handing out leaflets etc), please contact the branch as soon as possible.

'Work to Rule' Industrial Action resources and information
Following the success of the recent industrial action ballot, a well-attended general meeting voted unanimously to commence industrial action as part of our efforts to gain a new collective agreement. This action will be taken by academic staff and English language teachers.
