CReaTe member feedback

CReaTe: What do you think?
CReaTE proposes to reduce course content written by Deakin academics, instead sourcing this information free from the Internet. Academics will become content navigators. What do you think about this and other CReaTe issues? Comment below.

[ 0 ] Student fees for a BA have risen from $500/unit in 2010, to $750/unit in 2012. I guess Youtube must charge Deakin a lot to use its content???

[ 0 ] I enjoy face to face contact with students. I enjoy getting to know them and seeing them learn and grow. I don't believe this kind of intimacy is possible online. I am concerned that the 'create' agenda will lesson my day-to-day contact with students and subsquently my job satisfication.

[ 0 ] The McDonaldisation of the university continues apace. Lecturers are fast becoming the servers of bland prepacked material while the unit chair boxes up the stuff according to company guidelines

[ +4 ] Open source materials are readily available now. Some staff members already embed aspects into their subjects. But there lies the pedagogic and curriculum expertise which sits at the core of academic work. The issue is more about the ways in which these transitions are made, the opportunities for real consultation and for professional learning to enable staff to work in different ways.
