Fit and Well at UWS Opportunities and Imperatives arising from the Work Health Safety Act 2012 (NSW)

The NTEU Branch Committee has prepared a briefing document around the Work Heath Safety Act prepared for NTEU members and others active around health and safety at UWS (see document link)

These matters were initially discussed in our lunchtime campus spotlight sessions and the 3-hours education session run by Shay Degura from UnionsNSW in 2011; this paper should be read in conjunction with the education materials provided at that session. The NTEU will facilitate ‘workers’ at UWS to make formal requests to UWS management for the establishment of HSRs and HSCs, via appropriate and transparent election processes.

A key decision that needs to be made concerns the designation of ‘work groups’.  The UWS Branch Committee at UWS advocated the following structure for your consideration and feedback (please refer to the Table at the end).

What can you do?

1. Keep us in the loop of any WHS Act-related activities that may be underway in your area
2. Contact us before 16 March 2012

• ·         to provide feedback and suggestions to inform the WHS structure at UWS 2012
• ·         if you are interested in further information about the Work Heath Safety Act (2012) or
• ·         if you are interested to know more about becoming a local Health and Safety Representative or Health and Safety Committee member at UWS and training program.
