In late 2011, NTEU were led to believe we were close to resolving our Classification dispute. These discussions continued in January, however late on Friday 10th February we received a sudden inflammatory response from HR. In that response, the management of the University had the gall to accuse NTEU of delaying the resolution of the dispute. NTEU have taken swift action and referred the dispute to Fair Work Australia for the intervention of the Industrial Courts.
Many members are affected by this campaign, and Delegates will continue to keep members up-to-date with the progress of the dispute. The next steps will be for NTEU to attempt to resolve the dispute with the assistance of Fair Work Australia.
NTEU members are entitled to attend any FWA hearing on paid leave where they are participating as a witness. NTEU will discuss with appropriate members the need to attend as witnesses and this may take some coordination (due to the large number of members involved in the campaign).
Members are reminded that we will be negotiating a new Union Collective Agreement in 2012. No doubt, General Staff members are looking forward to using this opportunity to ensure appropriate compensation is made by the University for its ongoing failures to properly classify staff.
