Respecting the Science Campaign Gains Momentum

Posted 22 July 2011 by Terri Macdonald (NTEU National Office)

NTEU supports the Respect the Science campaign being run by Science and Technology Australia (STA), and congratulates STA on its success in bringing issues surrounding intellectual freedom and respect for the intergrity of critical inquiry to the forefront.

The campaign has the nation talking about the need to respect science.  Hansard is littered with references to it, Turnball delivered a speech about it last night, people are writing about it; radio presenters are asking politicians across the nation about it (see http://www.abc.net.au/unleashed/2805830.html).

Science & Technology Australia started the Respect the Science campaign on 20 June, and scientists are not just being heard but they and their work is now being defended.  NTEU looks forward to supporting STA and the campaign as it continues to highlight the importance of around science and academic freedom.

For more information on the Respect the Science campaign, go to  www.respectthescience.org.au  or  www.sta.org.au .
