Does Clem Newton-Brown give a sausage?
The National Tertiary Education Union disputes Prahran MP Clem Newton-Brown’s account of its Save our Swinburne Prahran TAFE rally and sausage sizzle on Wednesday, as reported in the Melbourne 3000 column in The Age. Newton-Brown claimed that he attended to challenge "an erroneous statement in a flyer that he supported the site being sold".
NTEU Swinburne Industrial Officer, Josh Cullinan, says that the union has never claimed Newton-Brown supported the site being sold. “We have no idea of what flyer Newton-Brown is talking about but we do know that at our last rally he refused to sign a letter saying he would stop the Baillieu Government from agreeing to the sale of the site. He voted to strip $35 million from Swinburne’s budget and $300 million from TAFE as a whole, so it’s a bit rich to claim he somehow doesn’t condone the end result – the Prahran campus sale. We think he doesn’t give a sausage so maybe next time he needs to be more careful about the placards he ends up standing in front of.
