2012 NTEU National Council, the union’s main decision-making body, opens today with nearly 200 union delegates from all over Australia hunkering down at the Bayview Eden Hotel in Melbourne for three days of presentations, speeches, resolutions and debate – and a spot of dancing on Friday night.
NTEU President Jeannie Rea will chair. Highlights include presentations from Professor David Peetz from Griffith University on the findings of the university staff survey on works and careers and ACTU President Ged Kearney on secure jobs. With research now showing that half Australia’s university teachers are now casually employed, interest in these two presentations is expected to be high. On Friday night, delegates will trip to the light fantastic of The Wright Thang, a five-piece band specialising in the hits of the 50s, 60s and 70s
