NTEU Delegates at Monash
Through 2011, many of our members were endorsed as Workplace Delegates. Delegates are officially endorsed and recognised Union workplace representatives. Our Delegates are able to have a role in advocating for the interests and views of their peers and colleagues in their workplace and within the Union while also representing the policies, positions and campaigns of the NTEU to their employer, peers and colleagues in the workplace.
NTEU Delegates are at the core of the Union's democratic, responsive structure and are instrumental in ensuring the voices of all NTEU members are heard. They receive training and support from the Branch and Division offices of the NTEU, and are given priority support by Union staff to assist them in fulfilling their roles. Delegates are the backbone of the Union in their workplaces. Having a Union Delegate in a workplace can nip problems in the bud, and gives members a Union point of contact in their own workplace.
In 2012, the NTEU staff and officials will be consulting with members about what should be included in our next Enterprise Agreement and negotiating that Agreement with management. Our Delegates have a key role in this process, so if there is no Delegate for your workplace, please give some thought to becoming a Delegate or encourage others who you think would be good in the role to consider nominating. If you are interested in learning more about what would be involved, you are welcome to contact Liz or John at the NTEU Branch Office (details below).
Workplaces can have more than one Delegate – if you and other members are interested in being endorsed as Delegates for your workplace, please contact NTEU Monash Branch office staff, Liz Schroeder at lschroeder@nteu.org.au or John Pezy jpezy@nteu.org.au or telephone the Branch Office on 9905 4110.
