NTEU Submission to the Review of Student Income Support Reforms 2011

Posted 8 June 2011 by Terri Macdonald (NTEU National Office)

Attached is NTEU's submission to the Review of Student Income Support Reforms 2011.

In responding to the review, the Union stresses that there has not sufficient time to fully explore the impact of the changes implimented in 2010 have had on access to student income support.  It is also impossible within this timeframe to determine what elements of the student income support reforms have most assisted students or conversely have acted as a barrier to their participation in higher education

As such, NTEU’s comments for this Review are primarily targeted at addressing what we believe to be current outstanding issues for the most disadvantaged and underrepresented groups of students, with emphasis on regional and rural and Indigenous students.  However, while we recommend increased levels of support for regional, rural and Indigenous students we do not support this increase at the reduction in levels of support for students in general.
