Neighbourhood Houses and Adult Community Education Centres Collective Agreement 2010
On Friday the long awaited Neighbourhood Houses and Adult Community Education Centres Collective Agreement 2010 came into operation following its approval by Fair Work Australia.
Although the Agreement was finalised in August 2010, the lengthy ballot process and the logistical difficulties in co-ordinating a state wide opt-in voting arrangement held up the formal application and approval process.
With this in mind many employers in the sector decided to pass on the agreed salary increases contained in the agreement (3% from July 2010, and 2% from December 2010) instead of waiting for the formal approval date. If your Education Centre or House has not done this, then the 5% increase in the minimum salaries is now due and should show up in your wage rates.
The agreement also incorporated the improved provisions for Casual and Sessional Teachers and Tutors that are contained in the new modern award: the Educational Services (Post-Secondary Education) Award 2010. The main benefit here is the establishment of a loaded rate for casual teachers and tutors that provides a higher rate in recognition of preparation and marking.
