Update on whether research grant funding is being cut

Posted 18 October 2012 by Jen T. Kwok (NTEU National Office)

At Senate Estimates yesterday (17 October 2012), further discussion occurred about the Federal Government's budget review, the pause on discretionary funding and whether the allocation of research grants through the ARC and other government bodies would become a cut. The Minister for Tertiary Education Senator Chris Evans stated that decisions about research funding had not been made, and that an announcement would be forthcoming at the appropriate time.

The NTEU has major concerns around the Federal government's budget review and its impact upon Australia's research capacity.

Note that the NHMRC funding rounds will be announced on 19 October 2012.

We would bring attention to the fact that the Member for Melbourne, Adam Bandt, has a petition running seeking to protect research funding in relation to science.
