Human Rights Scrutiny Bill 2010
On 21 April 2010, the Attorney-General launched Australia’s Human Rights Framework which outlines a range of key measures to further protect and promote human rights in Australia. The Framework acts on the key recommendations of the National Human Rights Consultation Committee and complements a number of actions the Government is taking to encourage greater community inclusion and participation.
As part of the Human Rights Framework, the Human Rights (Parliamentary Scrutiny) Bills were introduced into Parliament on 2 June 2010. On 2 June the Senate jointly referred the Human Rights (Parliamentary Scrutiny) Bill 2010 and the Human Rights (Parliamentary Scrutiny) (Consequential Provisions) Bill 2010 for inquiry and report. NTEU's submission is attached.
