Update on dispute as outlined at last Thursday's member meeting (18/11/10).
The meeting considered the dispute notified by the NTEU on October 25 around redundancies and Clause 69.4 of the Union Collective Agreement on organisational change.
The dispute has now formally been settled after the University agreed to advise all employees of the likely numbers of redundancies arising from December - January round. A meeting with the combined unions on Thursday November 18th reached an agreement that meets the staff's right to know the number of redundancies.
I wish to reiterate that the four unions opposed this round of redundancies from the outset. We continued to argue in Thursday's meeting that this early round of redundancies pre-empted the Review of Administration, Business and Technical Processes and heightened the level of anxiety many staff are currently experiencing.
We will be distributing a newsletter to all UB staff in the coming fortnight to publicise the NTEU's view on current change process and the related cuts. That newsletter will also set out how we will continue to represent and protect staff interests in the change process.
In Solidarity
Jeremy Smith
NTEU Branch President
