ABOUT THE BRANCH

Our Branch is an active group of members, both academic and general staff.  All members are volunteers, serving the interests of all of us.

The members of the Branch and sub-branch Executives are all elected by ballot of members every two years.  Any vacancies are filled either by by-election or by co-opting interested members to fill short term vacancies.  Some of these members are elected by the whole membership while other positions are nominated and elected by a specific academic staff, general staff or sub-branch electorate.

Our current Branch grew out  of the activity of members throughout the life of our forerunner organisations.  We take those traditions forward into the current University Environment.

Our membership is around the 70% mark for academic full time and fractional staff.  General Staff began joining in late 1990.

HOW THE BRANCH OPERATES:

The Branch is the official body and is responsible for the overall conduct of the Branch, including Sub-Branches.  The Branch Executive (including the Sub Branch Executive members) meets regularly by teleconference to carry out the business of the Branch.

The Branch is currently organised into sub-Branches.  These sub-branches are described as Albury-Thurgoona, Bathurst, and Wagga sites. A sub-branch is due to be established at the new Orange campus. Members from other locations are organised separately for email distribution but for formal processes are assigned to one of these three Sub-Branches.

Regular meetings are held of members are required throughout the year.  Voting on specific matters may be conducted by either holding physical meetings, supported by email voting from those members unable to attend or solely by e-mail voting.
