How to Join
Who can I discuss joining with?
If you are considering joining the NTEU but would like further information or to discuss the details with an NTEU contact in your work place before deciding, send us an email with your contact details, and we'll arrange for a representative to get in touch. We also have an information kit for potential members which can be sent to you.
There a number of ways to join the NTEU. You may contact the Branch Office and we will forward you an application form or you may join online or by downloading the appropriate form.

What will I have to pay?
Fees are set as a percentage of salary which means the less you earn, the less you pay. The fee for each member, excluding casuals, is divided between the Branch, Division and National levels of the
For casual members
For casual and unemployed members, special reduced fees apply. The fee for casual members are set out below.
Annual earnings 6th month fee Annual fee
$10,000 and under $27.50 $55.00
$10,001 - $20,000 $38.50 $77,00
Over$20,000 $55.00 $110.00
For associate members
The fee for these members is currently $55.00 per year, GST inclusive. The associate member category exists for postgraduate students, and is a great way to find out more about the union.
For past members
The fee for the past members association is $55.00, GST inclusive.Alternatively a member retiring permanently may pay 3 years fees for permanent membership of the Past Members Association.
How you can pay
For full time, part time or contract staff NTEU members, the NTEU encourages you to pay your Union dues by:
- direct debit,
- credit card,
- direct invoice.
Alternatively you may choose to pay via Payroll Deductions, although in the current industrial environment the NTEU is encouraging members to move away from this method of payment. See payroll deduction transfer here.
Casual or unemployed members can only pay by credit card or cheque.
