2005 Robin Fisher ACU
2005 – Robin Fisher – ACU
Robin Fisher joined the union upon her arrival at the McAuley Campus of the Australian Catholic University in 1991, and for a time concentrated on her career as a lecturer in nursing. In 1996, her dedication to her profession and to her students was challenged, yet never compromised, as Robin began her next calling as an activist.Robins elected roles have been, in turn, Sub - Branch Vice President, Sub - Branch President, Branch Committee Member, Branch Vice President, QLD Division Executive member, QLD Division Vice President and National Womens Action Committee member.
Yet that was not enough for Robin who put her hand up as negotiator for all four gruelling rounds of Enterprise Bargaining at her Branch.
Picket lines are usually exciting places to be when staff at universities take industrial action. However this is not the case at Australian Catholic University, where to sign up for picket duty can mean a couple of boring hours defending a deserted campus while allowing your imagination conjure up at strike breaker or two. Robin and her team would not want it any other way. Though our other branches may have more fun on picket lines, they envy the 90% membership density at ACU.
Robins commitment to the union movement is also evidenced by the active part she plays in individual grievances. Taking a straight no- nonsense approach, members know that with Robin overseeing the dispute, the procedure will prevail.
The ACU Branch has been fortunate to have such a kind and generous woman represent them over the years, and the NTEU takes great pleasure in nominating Robin Fisher for the Emma Miller Award
