5 reasons to join the NTEU
FIVE REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD BECOME A UNION MEMBER
You make a difference
Workplaces with active union delegates are better than workplaces without a union presence. They are usually safer, have higher pay and there is better adherence to workplace policies. Workers are more confident and the esteem in the workplace is higher. A lot depends of the quality of the delegate - the better and more experienced the delegate, the better the outcomes.
Unions are an insurance policy
You join a union to look after your work/play life just like you get health insurance looks after your physical health. Unions have resources and expertise that you can't get on your own.
Unions are a collective agency to define standards
This means that you define the standards and what quality is. Without unions, standards and quality would be what the employer could get away with.
You don't have to be afraid of being a union member
You can choose your level of involvement ranging from receiving and reading the newsletters that are sent to you, putting up a poster in your area, or being part of the enterprise bargaining team.
Out of a sense of social decency and an ethical view of life and human rights
The cause of unionism is the cause of humankind - people getting together to demand decent standards of living.
