Union members to vote on action
The Examiner Newspaper 6/05/2009 12:00:00 AM
TASMANIAN members of the National Tertiary Education Industry Union will receive voting papers for a ballot on industrial action this week.
NTEU Tasmanian president Kelvin Michael said yesterday that the Australian Electoral Commission posted ballot papers to NTEU members earlier this week which ask 13 questions about the types of action members are prepared to take.
The move comes after nearly 12 months of unsuccessful negotiations with the University of Tasmania regarding a wage agreement which ran out last June.
NTEU members at the university include general staff, academic staff and English Language Centre staff.
Mr Michael wants members to send a strong message to the university that they want to negotiate an agreement "in good faith".
The ballot will be declared on May 15 with union meetings arranged around the State on the same day to discuss the results.
If you do not receive your ballot paper by Thursday 7 May, please contact the AEC or the NTEU.
