University Council Election

NTEU endorsed candidate Pieter Moerkerken is one of four candidates running for the position of non-academic staff member on the University of Wollongong Council.

Online elections will open at 9am on Thursday 22 November 2007.  Voting will close at 5pm on Thursday 6 December 2007.

Non-academic staff who are eligible to vote in the election will receive an email which will contain voting instructioins. If you do not receive the email or have other questions contact Catriona Taylor, Deputy Returning Officer, on 4221 5684 or email catriona_taylor@uow.edu.au

Biographical Information
Pieter Moerkerken came to the University in 1990 from Telstra, where he worked in one of Telstra's Research and Design Laboratories. He started in ITS as a network engineer at Level 4 and over his career has advanced to Level 8/9. Pieter now works as Supervising Engineer, Telephony and Special Projects.

Pieter has been
the NTEUstaff representative on the Central OH&S Committee for much of his career at UoW and was the founding Chair of the ITS OH&S Workplace Advisory Committee. He is also an elected staff representative on the General Staff Consultative Committee, a consultative forum for discussion of workplace change, workplace issues, data and policies and was a member of the bargaining team that negotiated the current Enterprise Agreement for General staff at this University. He is also an elected staff representative on the General Staff Promotion and Classification Review Committee and an elected Executive Member of the Wollongong branch of the National Tertiary Education Union.  As an elected National Councillor, he has represented the Wollongong Branch at both the NSW and National Council for the past three years.

More widely, Pieter holds office at local, and has held office at state and national level in a community based organisation and holds the position of Director for NSW on the Board of a small national vocational education institution.

Pieter  has a commitment to ensuring that the voice of staff is heard at all levels of the University and has demonstrated that he is active and effective in this aim. He has the confidence and support of the National Tertiary Education Union.
