Resolution approving the campaign
UQ General Meeting 13 May 2004
Motion on UQ Financial Allocation Model
This meeting
· Believes that the Financial Allocation Model currently used by the University of Queensland results in an inadequate share of the total funds received by the University being deployed into Faculty teaching and academic activities and those Divisions which support those activities.
· Notes the very high level of job losses that have occurred and are occurring with restructuring of Faculties and Divisions and that such restructuring largely results from the inadequate level of university funding going to the Faculties and Divisions.
· Further notes that the tight budget situations of Faculty and Divisions are being used by management in enterprise bargaining as grounds for limiting pay increases.
· Instructs the NTEU-UQ Branch and the Queensland Division to undertake a sustained long-term public campaign with the objective of altering the Financial Allocation Model to ensure that Faculties and Divisions have better and more sustained funding.
· This campaign should include a comparative review of the treatment of Faculties and Divisions at UQ with that at other universities and the publication of material to staff, students and the wider community about the situation at the University of Queensland.
