MENTAL HEALTH LEGAL SERVICES [MHLS] Project, 2008-09
Public Interest Advocacy Centre [PIAC], Sydney

Over the next two years the MHLS Project will explore the unmet legal needs of people who are mentally unwell and through piloting innovative strategies, enable those needs to be better met.

The target group for the MHLS Project will be those individuals who are mentally unwell and who because of that have access to justice issues in areas such as...

• Crimes of violence
• Crimes of deception
• Family law matters
• Care and protection of children matters
• Discrimination, harassment and vilification
• Health care and service delivery
• Housing and social welfare

We will research and pilot both capacity building/training and new legal service delivery models. We want to talk with consumers, carers, workers, academics and others with an interest in this important subject.
If you have any questions, comments or ideas re the MHLS Project, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
