100 year anniversary of Brisbane's famous general strike
On 18th January 1912 at 11.00am, Union members of the Tramway Employees Association attached their union badges to their watchchains to publicly display their union membership. This was in defiance of a rule of the Brisbane Tramway Company under the management of Joseph Badger.
This simple defiance escalated into a General Strike involving 43 unions and tens of thousands of workers, and culminated in "Black Friday" 2nd February 1912.
Join other workers in celebrating the power which workers can exercise when they organise together!
