Domestic violence workplace rights and entitlements project

PARTICIPANT INFORMATION STATEMENT

 

You are invited to participate in a study looking at the impact of domestic violence on working people. You were selected as a possible participant because you are a member of NTEU who is a partner with the Australian Domestic and Family Violence Clearinghouse (ADFVC) in the domestic violence workplace rights and entitlements project.

This project is run by the ADFVC, a non-governmental organisation working to prevent domestic and family violence, which is located at the University of NSW. The project has been funded by the Commonwealth Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. The ADFVC will be surveying approximately 5000 union members in a number of sectors to give us basic information about the levels and effects of domestic violence on working people.

If you decide to take part in this study, you can fill in the survey on line. The information gained from this survey will provide valuable information to assist us assess how the workplace can most effectively respond to the impact of domestic violence. However, we cannot promise or guarantee any other benefits from participating in this study.

It is possible that participating in an interview or focus group may cause you some distress because it refers to sensitive issues in your life or stirs up upsetting memories or feelings. You do not have to answer any questions that make you uncomfortable, and completing the survey is entirely your choice.

If as a result of filling in this survey you feel the need to talk confidentially about your experience of domestic violence, please contact the Domestic Violence Line on 1800 656 463 (TTY 1800 671 442).

We are very aware of the need for you to remain anonymous in the research. Any information obtained in connection with this study and that can be identified with you will remain confidential and will not be disclosed, except as required by law. We also plan to promote the findings of the study and recommendations more widely through articles in journals, presentation at conferences and in our reports to the Commonwealth Government.

The Clearinghouse will make initial findings of the research available through an online newsletter on our website (www.adfvc.unsw.edu.au). Finalised papers and reports will be placed on the website. We can also make available free hardcopy versions of the newsletter, papers and reports, on request (ph: [02] 9385 2990; clearinghouse@unsw.edu.au).

Participation in this study is entirely voluntary. Your decision to participate or not will not affect provision of service to you by your union, and will not affect any future relations with the University of New South Wales or the Clearinghouse. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask Ludo McFerran at the ADFVC.
