University funding

Uniquely within the OECD, Australia is the only country where expenditure on tertiary education as a share of GDP has fallen since 1995. As a consequence Australia now spends less on tertiary education than the OECD average and has one of the lowest levels of public investment.

Without a reversal of these trends Australia’s universities will find it increasing difficult to maintain their reputation for world class education and research.
