University IP Newsfeed
Intellectual Property (IP) is an increasingly complicated area in universities. It refers to a range of rights relating to ownership and control of the products of intellectual endeavour. IP includes copyright, patents, trademarks, design, circuit layout rights, plant breeder’s rights and trade secrets. IP rights in tertiary education are central to the professional identity and development of staff. NTEU works to protect and promote those rights.
Since the UWA vs Gray case, a great deal of speculation has occurred around the nature of university IP ownership. The NTEU has prepared an FAQ to assist university staff and students to understand the complex nature of university IP ownership and how it crucially applies to their professional lives.
