ARC Discovery Scheme Consultation Paper
The ARC is proposing changes to the Discovery Program scheme and has produced a Consultation Paper seeking feedback on these changes. Submissions are due 1 December 2010. The Consultation Paper can be downloaded from here.
The Consultation paper proposes up to 200 separately-assessed flexible awards specifically for Early Career Researchers (ECRs) restricted to three years, but with potentially $25,000 salary each year to support project funding. Simultaneously, the ARC will no longer seek to specifically support ECR-only proposals within its Discovery projects scheme.
The ARC is also seeking feedback on a targeted and simplified Discovery projects scheme focusing at mid to lat career, research only and teaching and research academics. Few details are specified in the Consultation Paper.
The Consultation Paper importantly highlights that female researchers within the ECR cohort have been less successful than male ECRs. It also highlights that the proportion of women applying and participating in Discovery Projects declines the further women academics and researchers go in their careers.
NTEU would encourage members to contact Policy and Research with feedback on the Consultation Paper. Please send emails to: jtkwok@nteu.org.au
