Research college proposal withdrawn
We are very pleased to inform members that the concerns raised by academic staff and NTEU about the Discussion Paper on a Research Excellence Framework for La Trobe have been heard.
We understand that the paper has been extensively revised to include a proposal for genuine consultation and discussion with NTEU and with academic staff across the university in order to develop a robust research framework for La Trobe that pays appropriate attention to supporting and developing staff in their research endeavours. The proposal to establish a Research College has been removed.
What will be important in the coming months is that NTEU members participate actively in consultations about the Research Framework and contribute to discussion in their schools and faculties. Together we need to ensure that the resulting Framework really does enable academic staff to participate in research as a core aspect of their academic duties, and that they are supported to do so through appropriate workload management as well as ongoing staff development and career planning through performance appraisal and research mentoring mechanisms.
