CLIMATE CHANGE AND JOBS PETITION

Please consider endorsing this petition right now. See letter below from ACTU President Ged Kearney

Dear Colleagues / Members / Friends

Last week unions launched our petition to support a low pollution future and we need your support.

We are urging politicians to ensure that the big polluters pay the cost of climate change, that there are proper industry plans to make sure jobs are protected, and that money raised is use to assist low and middle income households adjust to cleaner energy future.

Add your name to the petition now: http://www.rightsatwork.com.au/Home/Campaigns/Petition.aspx?documentId=1486

There's no question that the union movement is concerned about any kinds of changes to the economy that has the potential to affect workers.  Climate change is one of those issues.  It's a huge challenge.

We want to present the petition to Parliament as soon as possible because it is urgent that politicians receive the message that Australians support action on climate change.

We have already seen the opportunistic scare campaign of the opposition swing into action.  We need members of parliament who support responding to the challenge of climate change to hold their nerve.

The only week the Parliament sits before the Budget in May is next week.

We need to get as many signatures as possible to show the Parliament that we support a price on pollution.  And we need them by midnight on Sunday.

So, I am asking that you urgently send this letter to as many people you know, so that we can ensure that the big polluters pay the cost of climate change and that this money is use to assist low and middle income household adjust to a low carbon economy.

 Thans for your support.

 In unity,

GED KEARNEY

ACTU PRESIDENT
