Indigenous Employment Opportunities At Griffith University - Government Media Release
Griffith University will offer 14 new positions to Indigenous Australians and provide 25 Indigenous students with more support to ensure a successful transition from University to the workforce, thanks to funding from the Australian Government’s Indigenous Employment Program.
Minister for Indigenous Employment and Economic Development Mark Arbib and Member for Moreton Graham Perrett said it was fantastic to see Griffith University taking in part in two Indigenous Employment Programs.
“Over 17 months four Indigenous Australians will be recruited into academic positions and 10 will move into generalist positions,” Senator Arbib said.
“The jobs are an opportunity for long term sustainable employment and the participants will receive mentoring support through their probation period.”
Mr Perrett said the Aspire-Inspire-Achieve project would provide 25 Indigenous students studying at Griffith University with the support needed to make a successful transition to employment once they finished their degree.
“The project includes promotion of Indigenous postgraduate cadetships, the Indigenous Cadetship Mentoring Program and the development of employment strategies for visual arts graduates,” Mr Perrett said.
“These aim to increase educational aspirations, sustainable job outcomes and earning capacity for Indigenous Australians.”
Senator Arbib said the project would operate across all five Griffith University campuses – Logan, Gold Coast, Mt Gravatt, Nathan and Southbank.
Both projects are a result of more than $300,000 from the Australian Governments Indigenous Employment Program.
Senator Arbib said it was critical that Indigenous Australians had the support and training they needed to take up employment opportunities.
“Over the next four years the Australian Government has committed almost $650 million to the Indigenous Employment Program,” Senator Arbib said.
“This is part of the Australian Government’s target to create more than 100,000 jobs for Indigenous Australians by 2018.”
