Thousands rally to save TAFE

Posted 17 August 2012 by Carmel Shute (NTEU National Office)

Thousands rallied in Melbourne for the Save TAFE march to Parliament on 16 August with staff and students bussing in from all over the state.

Starting at the State Library of Victoria, with speeches and music (and a wonderful rap), the crowd then marched to the State Parliament with the same message: 'No cuts!'

A petition with more than 7000 signatures was handed to opposition Leader Daniel Andrews who promised to hand it to Premier Ted Baillieu.

The rally was jointly organised by the NTEU and the Australian Education Union.

Watch out tonight for a 7.30 Victoria interview on ABC1 with Max Campbell, an NTEU member from Gippsland TAFE who was made redundant six weeks ago.

Well done and thanks for the support and solidarity – stay tuned for more action.

[ +1 ] well done on the rally. 43 billion on NBN but no people smart enough to use it.
