Welcome to the National Tertiary Education Union's homepage for staff employed by ELICOS/TESOL Education Providers.
The ELICOS sector depends largely upon overseas students attending Language Institutes in order simply to learn English, or as a stepping stone to further study in Australian higher education or vocational training.
NTEU has several hundred ELICOS Teachers employed in Australian universities or in other ELICOS Centres associated with tertiary institutions. Those members employed at Universities are members of the local NTEU Branch at that University.
These members often struggle with the cut-throat commercial nature of their employers, and are often denied benefits and job security of others working in the sector. NTEU has worked hard to protect the conditions of Language Teachers and most of its members are covered by Collective Agreements.
