Universities across Australia are well aware of the government’s ambitious participation targets and the imperative this creates for a significant increase in student retention. With TEQSA now in effect as the national regulator for the sector, discussion has arisen around measures for the quality of teaching and learning and therefore, around measures of student engagement. With higher retention a must for universities, what strategies are necessary to improve the overall teaching, learning and support provided to students? Or, how can you influence the student experience to support all students through to completion?

This conference will address:

  • The impact of the wider reform agenda on projects aimed at improving student engagement
  • What are the best measures of the quality of teaching and learning in Australian higher education and how can the results be more effectively used in improvement strategies
  • How quality can be monitored across access pathways, including pathways across VET and Higher Education, to ensure smooth student transitions
  • Strategies to support a diverse student body under the Australian government’s participation agenda including particular focus on students from low SES and CALD backgrounds, students in their first year of higher education and students with other barriers to learning such as disabilities or distance
