Delegates and Organising
This section of the NTEU website is designed specifically for Delegates and aims to offer practical strategies, tips, ideas and resources relating to organising, recruitment and Delegates training.
One of the key resources is the Delegates Handbook, containing a variety of useful information and references.
What is an NTEU Delegate?
Fundamentally a Delegate is a member who has taken on a more active role within his or her own Branch.
The term Delegate is used to refer to a wide range of NTEU activists who might also be called departmental representatives, campus representatives, union contacts or something similar. They are not formally recognised in the NTEU rules although some Branches have had Delegates recognised in the provisions of their Enterprise Bargaining Agreement for the purposes of ensuring their involvement in EB (eg: QUT).
Regardless of what they are called, Delegates usually operate in their own work area and their work can be loosely categorised under these three headings:
- Communication
- Encouraging active membership
- Recruitment
