The scrooge visits SCU for Xmas

Posted 16 December 2010 by Lisa Roberts (Southern Cross University)

It is disappointing to again see Management at SCU give a group of valuable staff an untimely Christmas present.  and yes Staff in IT, FLDS and Teaching and Learning are undergoing a restructure involving redundancies. Accordingly, some people in IT and FLDS are targeted to lose their jobs.

Management only provided the change proposal to the JCF on 30 November and acted on it immediately. The NTEU has since been holding discussions with our members in the affected areas and is monitoring their situations/ advocating on their behalf.

However, we believe it is unacceptable that such a significant restructure should be dumped on staff at this time of year and implemented, in that redundancies are being activated.

Both unions have raised a dispute over the matter.

The following motion was passed by the NTEU SCU branch committee.

“The NTEU SCU Branch Committee condemns and deplores the University management in engaging in Scrooge-like behaviour in putting this change proposal out at this time of year.

The NTEU SCU Branch Committee believes that the change proposal does not give full effect to the processes contained in the Union negotiated SCU Enterprise Agreement 2010.

We call on the University to be an employer of choice and to treat all staff fairly and with dignity”.
