What does APHEDA do?
Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA was established in 1984 by the ACTU so Australian workers could directly contribute to justice, human rights and development internationally.
Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA aims to build self reliance through support to education, training and development projects, working in partnership with those whose rights to development are restricted or denied. Over 50 training projects, working through 40 separate project partners in 15 countries assist many different communities in Southeast Asia, the Pacific, the Middle East, Southern Africa and the Caribbean.
Support for these projects comes from many individual union members throughout Australia, the ACTU, unions and workplaces, as well as from the Australian government aid agency, AusAID.

NTEU and Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA
The NTEU and its predecessor organisations have had a long association with Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA. Since 1991, we have provided long-term support for a range of projects focusing on health and safety and educational programs.
Currently, NTEU donations are supporting adult education programs in Cambodia and have assisted in rebuilding the University Library in Dili, East Timor.
As well contributions from Queensland members through add-ons to union dues are being used to support skills training for women in Cambodia and NTEU members at ANU contribute to the ongoing operations of the East Timor Unviersity Library through payroll deductions.
