What are my fees?
Fees are set as a percentage of salary which means the less you earn, the less you pay. The fee for each member, excluding casuals, is divided between the Branch, Division and National levels of the Union.
Each portion of the fee is set by that section of the Union. This means that:
- the Branch portion is set by a meeting of Branch members;
- the Division portion is set by the Division Council;
- the National portion is set by the National Council.
In addition .05% is collected from every member of the NTEU as a contribution towards an Industrial Defence Fund, which provides support to members undertaking sustained industrial action or for the provision of legal assistance to Branches or Division involved in disputes with broader implications for members.
Most Branch fees are set at 1% of annual salary, with some Branches at a slightly lower or higher rate.

HOW YOU CAN PAY
For full time, part time or contract staff NTEU members, the NTEU encourages you to pay your Union dues by:
- direct debit,
- credit card, or
- direct invoice.
Alternatively you may choose to pay via institutional payroll deductions.
Casual or unemployed members can only pay by credit card, cheque, money order or cash.
Remember union fees are tax deductible - if you pay through Payroll Deductions your employer will include the amount of union dues paid on your Group Certificate.
If you pay directly to the NTEU (either by direct debit, credit card or invoice) the Union will provide a statement of dues paid for tax purposes at the end of the financial year.
