Improvements won in Casual Academic Conditions
The joint NTEU/LTU Working Party consulted widely with the University Community in 2010, and has produced a detailed report containing 18 recommendations for improving the working conditions of Casual Academic Staff. Some of these recommendations have already been implemented, but the majority will be examined in early 2011 by the Union and University management to ensure implementation as soon as possible.
More work needed
The Collective Agreement and the resulting working party report have achieved some important gains in casual academic conditions of employment. However there are still significant challenges in ensuring proper dignity in the workplace, fair wages for all work done, and access to more secure jobs for those looking for academic careers. Sessional academic staff can contribute to this by:
- Joining the Union - download form here;
- Encouraging your sessional colleagues to join;
- Getting involved in our local, state and national Casual Academics networks.
