Casuals in Canadian universities
For your interest, here is an excellent article in the April 2012 CAUT Bulletin by former CAUT President Professor Penni Stewart (2008-11) about casualisation of the academic work in Canadian universities. She writes, 'Casualization is unraveling the fabric of the academic profession by creating a two-tier workforce, where a minority practice their academic craft and the casualized majority do most of the undergraduate teaching'.
There are some excellent resources about Professor Stewart's views on this issue. Her speech to the UNESCO World Conference on Higher Education in 2009 can be found here.
