Murdoch Staff Preparing to Withhold Student Results
“The union has been negotiating with management for more than a year but agreement has still not been reached on many of the issues of most importance to staff – including salaries,” said Janice Dudley, NTEU Murdoch Branch President. “We have been meeting regularly with management in an attempt to move negotiations forward.
Ms Dudley continued, “After our strike in September, we had hoped to see improved offers brought to the table. We are disappointed that the management of Murdoch University has failed to respond reasonably to our proposals for sensible salaries and decent working conditions – both of which are important to maintaining the high quality education of which Murdoch staff are so proud. We are left with little choice but to take further industrial action.”
The NTEU Murdoch Branch Committee of Management voted unanimously today to recommend marking bans to members, and many staff have already volunteered to take part in the industrial action. A mass meeting of members this Thursday is expected to endorse the committee’s decision, meaning that Murdoch University could be subject to a results ban as early as next week.
