Public investment in universities hits dangerous low
4 October 2000
The first phase of the NTEU Audit of Higher Education has revealed very concerning historical and international comparisons, highlighting the need for substantial reinvestment in universities. A working document entitled Public Revenue and Spending on Tertiary Education, Research and Development was released at the Unions National Council Meeting held in Melbourne last weekend.
Public investment in our universities is at crisis point in both international and historical terms, Grahame McCulloch NTEU General Secretary said. All political parties must take policies to next years federal election which will reverse these trends and ensure that we make the necessary investment in tertiary education to allow us to develop as a leading knowledge economy.
