83 Arrested During Yale Strike

Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, USA is in the grip of an acrimonious strike over pay and pensions by 4000 staff, including clerical and technical staff, graduate teachers, food service and maintenence staff.

As new first-year (freshman) students were arriving, 83 striking workers were arrested as they blocked streets and chanted slogans during loud demonstrations at the University.

The indefinite strike follows over 100 negotiating sessions, following the expiry of previous agreements nearly two years ago. Yale University has rejected the unions' proposals for binding arbitration.
