Staff strongly support strike action at VUT & RMIT
24 September 2004
It is students who will suffer most if VUT and RMIT do not do something positive about properly regulating staff workloads as a result of yesterday’s strike action by staff, NTEU Victorian Division Secretary Matthew McGowan said.
“The common themes at the two universities that have resulted in members taking this action are the absence of a decent salary offer and satisfactory workload regulation,” Mr McGowan said.
“Members are frustrated and angry that after nearly 12 months of bargaining, both universities have failed to come to the party on either of these issues.”
“VUT and RMIT should realise that if they want to attract and retain quality staff, they need to reach satisfactory agreement on these and other important matters,” said Mr McGowan.
