RMIT Training Non-Union Agreement Defeated
NTEU Members have defeated a management attempt to impose a second-rate non-union ballot on staff at RMIT Training, a highly profitable subsidiary of RMIT.
The proposed Agreement was beaten by 48 to 38 in a ballot of all staff.
RMIT NTEU Branch President Jeanette Pierce congratulated members for their determination to seek a better deal. Since the defeat of the non-union proposal, management has now refused to resume negotiations with the union, which confirms NTEU concerns that the whole purpose of seeking a non-union deal was to exclude the union from the workplace. It is most disappointing that senior RMIT management has not intervened to prevent its subsidiary from breaching Australia’s ILO Treaty obligations.
