IS ACADEMIC FREEDOM UNDER ATTACK? NTEU UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY FORUM

Is Academic Freedom Under Attack?

The University of Sydney NTEU Branch is conducting a forum into academic freedom.  This will be a topical forum in light of recent public comments by Government Ministers about the independence and integrity of research into workplace agreements, as well as examples of academics changing their research projects to avoid any potential of falling foul of the new anti-terrorism legislation.

The Union has been actively monitoring and highlighting concerns about the likelihood of academic freedom being caught up in the diminution of human rights from the Government's anti-terrorism measures.

Forum Details

Guest speakers: Prof Gavin Brown, Vice-Chancellor, University of Sydney and Dr John Buchanan, Deputy Director, Workplace Research Centre

Date: Tuesday, 23 October
Time: 1pm to 2pm
Location: Carslaw Lecture Room 159
