INDUSTRIAL OFFICER - 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

National Tertiary Education Union (NSW)

NTEU (NSW) is seeking to employ a full-time Industrial Officer on a 12 month fixed term contract to replace a staff member who is on leave.  The position will be based in Sydney but may require travel to regional universities in NSW.

NTEU is a federally registered membership-led union with coverage of academic and general staff in higher education.  The NTEU (NSW) has coverage of workers in all NSW universities and their associated student organisations, research institutes and companies.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

Negotiating local enterprise collective agreements; advocacy before industrial tribunals; negotiating with higher education managements on personal cases and disputes; recruitment; providing industrial advice and co-ordinating campaigns.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent; experience in the trade union movement; demonstrated negotiating; advocacy and campaign skills; demonstrated commitment to and understanding of principles of organising and evidence of experience in their application; commitment to union principles.

DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES:

Knowledge of the higher education industry; basic word processing; electronic communication skills and a driver’s licence.

SALARY: $63,291 pa - $79,298 pa, plus superannuation (Level 6 - 7 NTEU National Staff Agreement).

BRANCH ORGANISER (BO) / BRANCH INDUSTRIAL ORGANISER (BIO)

NTEU (NSW) is seeking to employ an Organiser who will be initially based at the Branch of the NTEU situated on the Bankstown campus at University of Western Sydney.

NTEU is a federally registered membership-led union with coverage of academic and general staff in higher education.  The NTEU (NSW) has coverage of workers in all NSW universities and their associated student organisations, research institutes and companies.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

Branch organising, recruitment and campaign activities; maintenance and servicing of Branch delegates’ and other activists’ networks; promoting the professional interests of, and communication with members; providing advice and assistance to members commensurate with the position level appointed and general administrative support for a Branch and its Committees.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent; experience in the trade union movement and a commitment to union principles; demonstrated organising and campaigning skills; negotiating; advocacy; word processing and database management skills and, for the BIO role, experience in enterprise bargaining.

DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES:

Knowledge of the higher education industry; electronic communication skills; experience in production of print media; and a driver’s licence.

SALARY: $56,061 pa - $69,385 pa, plus superannuation (Level 5 - 6 NTEU National Staff Agreement).
