REMINDER – ACADEMIC ANNUAL LEAVE, DO YOU NEED TO MAKE ALTERNATIVE ARRANGEMENTS?
The new Enterprise Agreement contains a revised clause on Academic Annual Leave (Clause A26.3):
A26.3.1 [Approval and time of taking leave] Annual recreation leave for all academic staff will commence at the time of the end of year University closure each year, for a period of 20 working days, pro-rata for part-time staff. Where a staff member has less than 20 days, the University will book the whole days accrued and carry forward any remaining fraction.
If you would like to take your leave at an alternative time, you will need to make alternative arrangements with your supervisor. The University cannot unreasonably refuse such an application (Clause 26.3.2 of the Agreement).
The University will shortly be sending all academic staff a reminder to book leave. It is anticipated that this will include advice about the process for requesting leave at an alternative time.
The NTEU and the University will be jointly reviewing this clause prior to the next round of bargaining and would appreciate any feedback members have. The provisions of A26.3.1 are effectively on trial for the life of the current agreement and will only be continued after that if both the NTEU and the University agree (Clause A26.3.4).
