Celebrating and Remembering Women’s and Gender Studies at UQ

Thursday 8 March 2012   2.00 pm - 4.30 pm

Auditorium, Sir Llew Edwards Building (14)

2012 is the 40th anniversary of Women's and Gender studies teaching at UQ. A series of celebratory events this year will be launched by a seminar on International Women's Day with speakers including Merle Thornton, central to the setting up of the first course, and various others who have played a major role in the history and development of this area of study.

The seminar will engage with the past, present and future of Women's and Gender studies at UQ. There will also be participation by academics from other Brisbane campuses involved over this time in Women's/Gender studies courses, and by former students, as well as others who have worked in various roles in areas of women's and gender issues, including union organisers, politicians, "femocrats", and those involved in women's movement organisations.

The events are being organised by the UQ Gender Studies Teaching Committee and the UQ NTEU Women's Committee. Sponsors of the event/series include the NTEU, the Australian Women's and Gender Studies Association and the Women, Gender, Culture and Social Change Research Group.
